We are only small in number but are very keen and would love to have some more members to stimulate ideas and contribute to the fun.
Since starting up in late 2008, we have written articles, ghost stories, haikus, memoirs, monologues and short stories. We have also produced an anthology of our work and have another in the pipeline.
During past meetings, we have tried out exercises to help us improve our confidence, stimulate our imaginations and get something down on paper ! The end results have varied from strange to hilarious, with quite a few interesting pieces along the way. Sometimes, we use these pieces as a starting point for further writing.
Meetings are monthly, on a Wednesday morning at a member’s house. We decide on a theme for the next meeting and each write a short(ish) piece at home to bring along to read. Even in such a small group the variety of subject chosen and different approaches to writing means that we rarely have two pieces that are similar, despite us all writing to the same theme. We aim to offer each other support and helpful criticism in a lively and enjoyable atmosphere.
If this sounds interesting and something you have always fancied trying your hand at, why not come along and join us? We’re a friendly bunch and you will be made very welcome.
